The Red Funnel Easter Challenge gets underway in the Solent on the 13 April. The event is being organised by the RORC with the support of Red Funnel Ferries and the major Cowes Clubs.

Racing will take place over three days on courses designed to emphasis crew work and boat handling, with three races on each of the first two days and two races on the final day. Sportsboats will race on separate courses with up to five races a day.

A feature of the regatta is the coaching support being provided by the RYA both on and off the water - RRS 41 on outside help has been changed to allow on-the-water advice.

The UK Farr 40 fleet will be out in force, with nine boats entered.

The Sportsboats entry is from Mumm 30's and Melges 24's. Leading boats from the Warsash Spring Series, which is taking a break over the Easter, will include the Beneteau First 31.7, Dickies Yacht Sales; Jonathan Butlers, Impala 28, Peanut and the leading Sigma 38, Red Arrow while in graceful splendour will be the Swan 60 of Paul Winkelman.

A perfect spectacle and scene setter for the 2001 Cowes season which promises to be a vintage one with the Round the Island Race, Cowes Week and the America's Cup Jubilee, incorporating a re-running of the original race, still to come.
