Team Philips heads out into the English Channel At about ten minutes past two on Thursday afternoon, 5th October, Team Philips headed for America. There was a big crowd to watch her depart Dartmouth Marina and ease out of the river and into the English Channel. Pete Goss commented, 'Today is a huge step forward for the whole team and all our supporters. We have all been tried and tested to our very limits, and now we can say we are truly on our way to win The Race.'

Grant Dalton and Steve Fossett might have something to say about that. But in the meantime, Team Philips is headed south-west, down towards the Bay of Biscay. A high pressure system is settling over the British Isles and they want to get south to escape the light air. The plan is to get to New York for the 26th October. That should give them plenty of time to work the boat up on the crossing - assuming that there are no more dramas. The rest of the world will be watching this trans-Atlantic with plenty of interest.
