Team Legato announce crew
The mast will hopefully go in early next week and they should start sailing trials around the 6th or 7th December. Bullimore reckoned, "It’s an extra delay, but we will use the time provisioning the catamaran for our 2,500 mile qualifying sail and testing some of the systems onboard. The time won’t be wasted."
The occasion was also used to name some of the crew for The Race, the others will be confirmed after initial sailing trials. Those onboard so far include Bernard Perrin, a former Spirit of Apricot crewman who has sailed aboard Whitbread Maxis La Poste, British Defender and Merit, and was recently skippering one of the boats in the Maxi One Design fleet.
Fred Dahirel is another Frenchman, Dahirel has raced with Florence Arthaud and Jean Maurel on the French multi-hull circuit. Kevin Pahl also raced with Bullimore aboard Spirit of Apricot, while Frank Martin is a former professional windsurfer who did the electronics fit-out on Club Med and Code One.
Slava Sisenco is a Ukranian sailor who raced on Fazizi in the 1989/90 Whitbread, and Odessa in the next race. While American Mike Gegginger sailed on Team Legato when she was ENZA, and has also raced on the tri Primagaz. The cameraman will be Ben Duncan.
"I’ve got a good young crew together and we can’t wait to get going. The boat is well proven, strong and much faster than she was in her ENZA days. We have as good, if not a better chance than anyone to win this race." Bullimore enthused during Team Legato’s launching into Bristol Docks earlier in the week.
