Skandia seeks charities

To be official charity over Cowes Week

Skandia, the Southampton based sponsors of Skandia Cowes Week, is keen to hear from charities who would like to be the Official Charity at the world's largest sailing event.

In a change to previous years Skandia and the regatta organisers, Cowes Combined Clubs (CCC) will appoint a charity for three years. This means the chosen charity will become part of Skandia Cowes Week from 2003 to 2005.

To be considered, the charity must bear some relevance to Skandia Cowes Week or sailing in general and a portfolio of fundraising ideas to put forward. Firstly interested charities should send a written proposal to Tim Sewell, Skandia's Sponsorship Manager giving details of the charity, why they would like to be the official charity and an outline of how they would use the position. Skandia and the CCC will invite a shortlist of applicants to present their proposal from which they will make the final choice.

Tim Sewell of Skandia believes that he will see a good number of applications, "We are very excited about forming a relationship with a relevant charity for the following 3 years. The fundraising potential throughout that period is vast and some previous success stories include the John Merricks Sailing Trust and the R.N.L.I".

Written proposals should be sent to Tim Sewell, Skandia Life Assurance Company Limited, PO Box 37, Portland Terrace, Southampton, Hampshire SO14 7AY by 31 December 2002, and the presentations and final selection will take place in the New Year.
