The Uin-na-Mara Series was so-named in honour of Hector and the late Phyllis Ross' boat in recognition of their contribution to HK cruiser racing. This year's eight-race Zurich & Eagle Star Uin-na-Mara Series compliments the Hong Kong Cruiser racing calendar and has been designed to offer challenging race opportunities in local waters for Cruiser class boats in addition to their offshore races to the Philippines and China coast.

With the generous support of a new Title Sponsor, Zurich & Eagle Star, the 2002-2003 series will test competitors over two Hong Kong to Macau races, two overnight races, two islands courses and two windward/leeward courses. On 28 September 2002, Race 1 starts at 10:00hrs, east of Lamma with competitors racing from Hong Kong to Macau.

Mr. Peter Schelling, Managing Director & CEO of Zurich & Eagle Star, said, "We are delighted to support this prestigious series and wish to arouse interest of more local people towards yacht racing. With our commitment to "Professionalism for life", we are dedicated to helping our customers meet their challenges and plan for their future - just like how seasoned sailors weather a storm and head for their destination."

Zurich & Eagle Star Uin-na-Mara Race 1 is the first of the Hong Kong to Macau Races races, starting on 28 September 2002 in the area south east of Lamma Island. Owners and skippers are being encouraged to sign up quickly for this exciting event and commit to one or all of the Series races. RHKYC Commodore, Dr Alan Lau, welcomed competitors and noted that "with the busy schedule of racing in Hong Kong it is refreshing to see the club and cruiser sailors working together to promote sailing throughout Hong Kong."

Whichever category they compete in, they will not regret sailing like the original Uin-na-Mara, the "Bird of the Sea".
