Olympic medallists, winners and challengers of the America's Cup, the champions of the Europe and the World of 16 countries, turn the Palma Bay into the world centre of the sports sail for one week.

It is needed a great effort to get the first positions in the contended Copa del Rey-Agua Brava, so the boats and sponsors need to get the services of the first swordsmen of the navigation wherever they are. These reasons make the regatta an important event with a considerable coverage of the press.

Other reason of the importance of this regatta is that various challengers of the America Cup are present with their crewmembers. In this way they can see, compete and test the last technical advances in the different boats IMS in the Copa del Rey-Agua Brava.

In particular, the Italian of the Prada and the Mascalzone have decided to participate as sailings in order to be present in some boats that are favourites in this edition. Among them, Eddie Owen and Massimo Paolacci in the Brezze, and Jordan in Retevision.

In this group the Spanish Guillermo Altadill and Pepe Ribes highlight; the first one is the winner of the Pacific Cup in Hawaii in the Assa Abloy, and the second one was a member of the Nautor Challenger, but at the present time is in the Castellon Costa Azahar. Close to them, we cannot forget the Spanish oceanic navigators Toni Guiu or Jan Santana in the Zurich.

Among the outstanding foreign people that have gone round the world in the Volvo Ocean Race are John Kostecki, sailing master of the Illbruck and sails in the Mean Machine. Stewart Wilson and Josh Alexander are part of the crew of the Italian Brezze.

Finally, Ian Moore and Dee Smith -tactician of the Caixa Galicia- recently went round the world too in the "la Volvo"; the first one in the Illbruck (winner), and the second one in the Amer Sports I.

Vasco Vascotto, champion of the Europe Mumm 30 and the World in J24, competes in the Italtel, one of the Italian boats that are between the favourites for the final triumph. Lou Barney, ex-winner of the Copa del Rey is in the level of the maximum contended height, together with Casinari , in the Giascomelli, world champion in several times; Bresani, second classified in the latest world IMS; and the medallist Brazilian brothers Grael, winners of the Olympic gold and world championship of cruisers.

In this time, the Spanish sailings highlight for their quality and possibilities of winning the Copa del Rey.

Jose Luis Doreste in the Banco Espirito Santo, winner of 6 tests, will contend in the Copa del Rey with other important Olympic and world Spanish champions. Among them, highlight Domingo Manrique in the new Azur de Puig; Noluco Doreste in the Codorniu; Fernando León in the CAM; Jordi Calafat in the Retevision; Pedro Campos (world champion in several times) in the Telefonica Moviles; Luis Doreste (two Olympic gold medal) in the Tau Ceramica; Iñaki Castañer (winner of the Copa del Rey two years ago) in the ONO; Camilo Jose Cela Conde in the Siemens and a lot of excellent sportsmen.

This large number of names of sailings and sponsors, shows that the ancient management magnates have opened the way to a teams, fleets and crews that are guided by a high technical and sports level and a maximum professionalism.
