Match racing UK
Several of the world’s best match racers are set to appear throughout the Winter Challenge Series and this weekend will host the first group of top level talent. Attending this weekend’s event and competing in the RYA’s J/80s are two teams ranked in the top 10 of the ISAF World Match Racing rankings and four teams ranked within the top 40.
British sailor Ian Williams, ranked fifth by ISAF will be the highest ranked boat in attendance. Runner-up in last year’s JPMorgan Fleming Winter Challenge, Williams will be hunting for further success this year. Williams has been sailing full time on the match racing circuit for the past year taking wins at the France International, the Polish Sopot and the Doyle match racing events. Williams and his crew will go into the series as the team to beat.
Ready to challenge Williams is Sebastien Col, a member of the K-Challenge America's Cup team, and his crew who will get out on the water to make their mark on the event. The Frenchman has won four major Match racing events this year including the European Championships.
After competing in the event last year, Lars Nordbjerg of Denmark, Andrew Arbuzov of Russia and Germany’s Stefan Meister, as well as one of Britains top match racers, Christian Hamilton, all return to take a second stab at the JPMorgan Asset Management Winter Challenge Match Racing Trophy. Also competing in the event is Switzerland’s Marcel Walser and representing Great Britain are Simon Shaw and Graham Sunderland.
