Swan anniversary regatta

Nautor to stage race next July around Finnish archipelago

In 2006 it will be 40 years since reputable boat yard Nautor built its first ever sailing yacht and christened it a Swan. Since then, over 1860 Swans have been constructed at Nautor’s constantly evolving yard in Pietarsaari, Finland. In honour of this 40th anniversary, Nautor is announcing it will hold its first ever regatta in the country where Swans are born. The Swan Anniversary Regatta will be held from 26 - 30 July 2006, with races being played out around the beautiful archipelago of Turku, on the south-western coast of Finland.

The Swan Anniversary Regatta has been devised in conjunction with Turun Pursiseura, the Yacht Club of Turku, which will be responsible for racing and entry applications. The marriage of Nautor and Turun Pursiseura is an especially fitting one, as Turun Pursiseura will itself be celebrating an anniversary in 2006 - its 100th.

The Swan Anniversary Regatta will in many ways be unique - not least in its status as the first Swan regatta ever to be held off Finnish shores. As well as bringing together Swans from the entire 40-year history of Nautor, the Swan Anniversary Regatta will offer Swan owners the opportunity to experience the beautiful archipelago of Turku. The Swan fleet will make the cosy harbour village of Nagu its base for the first two days of the regatta, with the second half of the event seeing the fleet move to the heart of the city of Turku, at the mouth of the river Aura. By creating this unique dual base concept, Nautor and Turun Pursiseura are enabling entrants to sample the diversity of the Finnish coastline, from the stunning scenery of the archipelago to the old city of Turku.

The Swan Anniversary Regatta will be an inclusive event, for Swans of all ages and design, with two entry divisions; cruising and racing. The cruising class will consist of shorter courses, with emphasis on leisurely racing and enjoyable sailing, while the racing class will be offered challenging courses ranging from longer coastal races to shorter, round the buoy sprints. As with every Swan regatta, the thrill of racing will be rivaled by the exquisite social events that will be held on-shore throughout the week. Nautor, along with event partner Strandbo Group, will be hosting a varied evening programme, ranging from fine dinners to relaxed Barbeques, as well as a final prize giving ceremony.

Over 40 Swans are currently expected to participate in the Swan Anniversary Regatta, traveling from across the Baltic Sea region and further afield.
