JPMorgan Asset Management are back to sponsor the Winter Challenge Match Racing Series

This weekend (11-12 November) will see the start of the annual JPMorgan Asset Management Winter Challenge Match Racing Series, with title sponsor JPMorgan Asset Management supporting the event for the third year running.

The event provides top level international match racing in the UK throughout the winter months and attracts some of the world’s top match racers to the UK along with providing an excellent platform for those wanting to get onto the World Match Racing rankings.

This weekend’s first event will feature British National Match Racing Champions both past and present in the form of Mark Campbell-James and Nick Cherry, with America’s Cup helmsman and Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy also making an appearance.

Overseas crews making the trip to Queen Mary include Turkish match racer Orken Soyer, who placed second in the Asian Regional Final at the ISAF Nations Cup, and the Netherlands’ Jelle Roos, Dutch National Champion and runner-up at the 2006 Duisberg Cup.

The eight event series takes place from November to March at Queen Mary Reservoir, Staines on the outskirts of London. Competitors can expect all the British winter has to throw at them long with some highly competitive match racing. The winter series will culminate in a thrilling final from 9-11 March 2007.

The 2005-2006 JPMorgan Asset Management Winter Challenge Series hosted seven teams from the top twenty in the ISAF World Open Match Race rankings and six teams from the top twenty in the ISAF Women’s World Match Race rankings, including sailors such as Britain’s Ian Williams, Claire Leroy of France, Klaartjie Zuiderbaan from the Netherlands, Frenchman Mathieu Richard and Sweden’s Bjorn Hansen.

RYA Racing Services Manager, David Atkinson, said: “It’s great that JPMorgan Asset Management have come back for a third year to support this event which is now well established as ‘must do’ event, borne out by the number of top-ranked competitors who want to come and take part. We anticipate that the competition, as ever, will be of a very high standard.”
