Offshore Challenges Sailing Team has announced it will field an entry in the upcoming iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series, becoming the sixth boat offically to enter. The first event is now just a few days away, and will start on Lake Starnberg, near Munich on Friday, 25 May.

America’s Cup and around the world sailor Nick Moloney will skipper the team throughout the series which will take the fleet to some of Europe’s top destinations including Munich, Marseille, Geneva, Lake Garda, Amsterdam and Cowes.

Joining Moloney in Munich on his 40ft catamaran will be former British Olympic Tornado sailor Hugh Styles and America’s Cup crewman David Carr. German Olympian Gunnar Struckman will be the fourth member of this team for the Lake Starnberg event.

Moloney is hopeful that his team has the potential to do well at the upcoming event. "We are all very professional team with a burning and aggressive desire to win. We will take a real shot at winning the overall top trophy; that’s why we are competing in the iShares Cup."

The Offshore Challenges Sailing Team is aware of the challenges that lie ahead: "Crew work is paramount on these boats and stress levels will run high when trying to navigate these boats on short courses and in close quarters. The racing will be so close to shore that when caught in a tussle with other competitors, we may will need to watch our language so as not to offend the family having a picnic lunch on the sea wall three meters from the action!"

Moloney continues: "Racing on restricted water with a fleet of up to seven boats, I’m guessing we will be taking a few knocks and bruises along the way and our nice shiny paint job may have more than a few scratches by the end of this tour."
