REVIEW: GBR Challenge for the America's Cup

New 95 minute DVD of the complete story of Peter Harrison's campaign
Somehow none of the TV coverage of the America's Cup at the time really summed up the scale of what it takes to challenge for the America's Cup. However now GBR Challenge's official TV production company APP Broadcast has come up with a feature film length 95 minute DVD telling the full story of Peter Harrison's campaign. The DVD covers the build up to the Cup, the construction of the boats and the America's Cup Jubilee regatta as well as the launch parties such as the official christening of Wight Lightning, by HRH The Princess Royal (helped along, appropriately, by Lightning aka Craig Nutter, when the bottle didn't break). But the bulk of the 95 minutes covers GBR Challenge's fortunes in the Louis Vuitton Cup challenger series and is a full and complete document of the racing that they took part in. In true APP style, the film captures the emotions of the moment - of losing the first few races, the change of starting helm from Andy Green to Andy Beadsworth, the high points of winning five straight races, one of them being the highly rated Oracle and then the final dispatch to the highly experienced Team Dennis Conner. The DVD includes interviews with Peter Harrison, skipper Ian Walker, shore manager Ed Danby, designer Jo Richards as well as the giant Scot George Skuados who took a plunge over the side during one of the races against Stars & Stripes. Aside from this there is footage of the sailmaking and some of the more technical aspects of the boat. For anyone interested in the Cup and/or GBR Challenge or who got fed up with the BBC coverage and wasn't in Auckland to witness the proceedings first hand this DVD is a must. The DVD is available directly from APP Broadcast
