Battle commences Saturday in Dun Laoghaire

The two host nation squads competing in the Chubb Insurance International Team Racing Challenge at Dun Laoghaire will be the first to begin racing tomorrow morning (Saturday 10th May) when the local Combined Clubs face the East Coast Sigmas side.

That race will form part of two 48 race Round Robin series to be staged over the weekend that will decide the event. Three teams from the United States will race against five counterparts from the European side of the Atlantic to determine the return match of The Patriots Cup held in Newport, Rhode Island.

Previously held on the The Solent, the switch to the Irish venue this year was a result of the massive growth in the Sigma 33 fleet on Dublin Bay since 1998 when the local fleet swelled from six to 34 boats. Owners have loaned their yachts to the event and the 24 boats were allocated to the teams this evening:
