Sam Crichton on the final fo the Farr 40's Alfa Romeo Twilight series in Sydney

Friday February 27th 2004, Author: Sam Crichton, Location: Australasia
Sailing in a southerly breeze that have everything from 6-28 knots, the final race in the Alfa Romeo Twilight series had another race winner. Firing out of the gates mid-way down the start line, Richard Perini, winner of the third race, had a great start. Emotional Hooligan took the right side of the first beat and remained in first place from the first mark rounding to the finish line.

After doing a turn at the first mark Rob Skinner's Weapon worked back from seventh to finish in second place, five seconds behind Emotional Hooligan. Dick Voorderhake's Rapscallion sailed a clean race to maintain a top four position during the four-lap race that took the fleet across the harbour into Rushcutters Bay.

Matt Allen steering Kokomo had been in contention for first place for the series but had to retire on the fourth leg. Carrying a DNF eventually had Kokomo in third place on a count back from Skinner's Weapon.

Rocco Rinaldo, Sales Manager from Alfa Italia at Crows Nest, presented the fleet with trophies for the regatta at a function at host club Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron at Kirribilli.

Typical of One Design sailing, racing was close during the four days of the series and this gave crews, tacticians and owners a chance to do some fine tuning before they head into the final two regattas for the Farr 40 2003/04 season. The Joico regatta on March 6 and 7 and the Rosemount National Championships March 12-14, both being held at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Pittwater.
