Ace Bermuda sailor Peter Bromby sat out the last Etchells race of Bacardi Invitational Race Week and eked out a one point victory over American Tim Lynch to win the K.F. Trimingham Silver Trophy. Bromby ended the series with scores of 8-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-DNC. Lynch scored 3-3-5-2-2-3-2-1. Bromby and Paula Lewin, tactician for Lynch will represent Bermuda in the next Olympic Games.

But the J-24 class had the match of the day. The battle went down to the final two races with a tight contest between fellow Canadians. Rudy Wolfs took a solid first to Seam McDermott's third in the final race to win by only one point in an exciting match. It came down to a good start, solid tactics and excellent crew work in the 3ft chop in the Great Sound. Wolfe wins the Gripper Trophy in this very competitive class.

Race week concluded today with two Etchells and two J-24 races and one race for the IODs. After a week of 6-8 knot winds, the fresh breeze caused some broken halyards, torn sails and dismasted one of the IOD's. Encore, sailed today by George Hebb (RNSYS), lost her rig on the first leeward leg of today's only IOD race.

Bermudan Craig Davis took all of the top prizes in the IOD Class. He won the A series for the first five races, the Norwegian B series for the last four and the Vrengen Gold Cup for the overall series. Davis scored 1-1-2-2-3-1-1-1-7 ( with 2 drops) for a nearly perfect 9 points. Jan Petter Roed of Norway was second in the A series, John Rumsey was second in the B series and co-skippers John Rumsey and Jim Hennefer came secnd in the overall standings.

In classes that finished Thursday, Martin Visine, Ali Mellor, and Mark Cloture celebrated May Day with wins in the Lasers, 505's and J-105s. Visine, a regular in the Bermuda Etchells fleet switched to Lasers and scored 1-1-1-4-1-5-4 and dropped the 5 for 13 points winning the Laser International Invitational Race Week Trophy. Malcolm Smith, a top Sunfish sailor, came 2nd with 16. After the drop in the 505 group Ali Meller had
all bullets 1-1-1-1-6-1 for 5 points and won 505 International Invitational Race Week Trophy. Jahn Tihansky was second with 2-5-2-2-1-4 with 11 points. J-105 Sailor Mark Cloutier sailed to victory with 1-3-1-1-1-1-5-2 for 10 points and takes the B.W. Walker Memorial Trophy. Glenn Astwood was second with 3-1-2-4-5-2-1-1 and 14 points.
