Team Tonic leads offshore race
Peter Morton's Mandrake (confusing, isn't it?)
Now weaving their way around the marks to the east of the Solent, the Rolex Commodore's Cup boats taking part in the 121 mile offshore race have had a frustrating night with the breeze disappearing forcing many in the fleet to kedge. Currently they are experiencing a light 5 knot breeze from the north.
At 0930 BST this morning the first four boats had rounded the St Helens buoy. Later at the Pullar Buoy RORC observers clocked Nick Hewson's Farr 52 Team Tonic with a 17 minute lead over Bear.
The boats have six more marks to round before heading for the finish line where they are due at lunchtime.
Timings of Pullar Buoy roundings as clocked by watch boat:
Team Tonic 10.09
Bear of Britain 10.26
Chernikeef to round in 10 mins
Conditions: 5/6 knots easterly breeze
Tide: flooding west-east for the past hour
Nab Tower roundings early this morning
|Bear of Britain||0:55|
|Carphone Warehouse Communicator||1:15|
