Maxi Worlds start tomorrow
An entire month in Porto Cervo dedicated to large international yacht competitions - the Swan Cup and Sardinia Cup will follow - is opening with this World Championship reserved to yachts of no less than 20m long.
The Maxi World Championship will see yachts racing in Cruisers , IMS and Wally divisions. 25 yachts coming from ten different countries including England, United States, France, Holland and Germany are entered this year's event.
The Italian division is strongly represented by Carlo Perrone winner last year in the Cruisers division with his Philipee Starck-designed Virtuelle, Marco Tronchetti Provera with his new Kauris III, Pasquale Natuzzi with his beautiful Antonisa, and Pier Luigi Loro Piana with MySong.
Two other protagonists from previous Maxi Yacht Rolex Cups will again be lininig up: Harry Macklowe racing on his Unfurled - winner in 2001 of the large cruisers division - and Alessandro Grande on his very fast Vae Victis in the Wally division. Nautor Challenge and Nafta I.A. Europe with Stefano Rizzi at the helm are among the last ones enrolled. With Prada for the last America's Cup Rizzi sailed with Grant Dalton on Amer Sports One in the recent Volvo Ocean Race where they competed under the YCCS burgee.
