The organisers of the Sovereign’s Cup regatta in Kinsale, Ireland are giving serious consideration to introducing a Class 0 to this year’s event.

Of the 108 entries received to date, 39 currently qualify for Class 1 category. Of this number, 16 would qualify for Class 0 status, which could possibly make Sovereign’s Cup 2003 the largest Class 0 event in Ireland this year.

Regatta Director Pat Pyne has been in contact with the owners of the yachts meeting the criteria. “We’ve had enthusiastic and positive responses back from the majority of owners we’ve contacted.” says Pyne. “We will take this feedback into consideration when the race committee meet again and will make a decision before the end of this month.”

The Sovereign’s Cup regatta runs from June 25 to 28 inclusive.
