During the third day of racing at the Nation’s Cup in Trieste, Team Alinghi and Team OneWorld successfully got their places in the semi-finals, while the remaining two contenders remain undecided.

Due to the conditions, the first race was not able to be held until 14:30.

In this Team Alinghi led by Jochen Schuemann beat Magnus Holmberg's Swedish
Victory Challenge by a margin of 15 seconds. It was neck and neck until Victory received a penalty and subsequently lost the race.

At 16:00 the Americans on OneWorld steered by James Spithill lined up against the Italian Mascalzone Latino team of Vasco Vascotto. The start was won by the Americans but at the first mark Vascotto took the lead. However Spithill was able to put a penalty on Vascotto and the Italian was unable to regain the lead, despite Spithill winning by just five seconds.

The last race of the day was between Alinghi and Oracle. Schuemann’s team were able to win this race by a margin of 20 seconds over Tommaso Chieffi.

Later in the afternoon the organisers were forced to suspend racing due to the weather and the wind which had piped up to 30 knots. Tomorrow the program is to finish the Round Robin and start the semi-final match. The Second Round Robin has been cancelled.

Results:
Alingi, 4 points
OneWorld, 3 points
Mascalzone Latino, 2 points
Victory, GBR Challenge, Oracle 1 point.
