Libby Greenhalgh looks ahead to this weekend's forecast
General Situation A tricky start to Saturday as a front pushes to the east of the Solent in the early hours of the morning. By early afternoon the wind will have settled to a SW direction and about 10 knots. Sunday will see the stronger winds of the weekend ahead and on a second frontal system providing further cloud and rain for the area. The winds will be from the S to SW 16 to 20 knots. Saturday Saturday will start off fairly cloudy due to an overhang of cloud behind the cold front that will lie north south about 50 miles to the east of the Solent by 9 am. The wind will initially start off in the NW about 3 to 5 knots. As the temperature rises the and the cloud lifts the wind will back to the west and increase slightly reaching up to 8 knots soon after midday. From around 4pm the wind will slowly back to the SW and build in strength further. By 6pm the wind will be from the SW about 12 knots. A dry, sunny day with cloud developing from midday. Temperatures fairly average for the time of year reaching a maximum of about 14 Celsius. Above: wind chart for 1200 Sunday Sunday will start with a 15 knot wind, gradually increasing to 18 knots throughout the morning, from 180 deg. With a front fast approaching from the west the wind will back ahead and on the front to 160 deg and increase to 18 knots with gusts up to 24 knots between 11 am and 2 pm.
