Clipper Ventures will again be running the Industry Challenge, their Industry Challenge this year. This is an eleven-series saililng challenge which pits the nation's top businesses against each other from around the UK.

The Championship series, spanning the summer season of 2002, consists of industry-based sailing regattas, with winners going through to the final regatta weekend on 27 September. Businesses from the insurance, pharmaceutical, legal, medical, IT, retail, communications, advertising, finance and property industries will race against each other to win the Clipper Industry Championship perpetual trophy.

Though it is not a requirement that competitors must be keen and experienced sailors it is certainly an advantage. Already AXA Insurance, Chubb Insurance Company of Europe S.A. and Centor Insurance and Risk Management Limited, have entered to compete in the Insurance Sector regatta on Friday 3 May.

Each company is given one of Clipper's Reflex 38 racing yachts. Each yacht takes eight crew members, and there are a total of 10 yachts available, which makes for an exciting day of racing in the Solent. It costs £950 +VAT per boat to take part for a team of eight. This cost includes two professional Clipper crew, which will ensure all ten teams are competitve on the day, prominent company logos on each boat, lunch, refreshments, and the all important Pimms after racing. For those without wet weather gear it is included in the price along with safety equipment and personal accident insurance.

If you don't feel your team will be up to scratch, or you feel like some pre-regatta training, then there is the option to use the boats at a cost of £700 +VAT per day for training. There are also opportunities for discounted team clothing and extra branding.

The day kicks off with some sail familiarisation before a hearty lunch is taken on board. After discussing tactics, the racing commences with a series of short races around the buoys off Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Every category winner is awarded their industry trophy at an informal prize giving, along with an invitation to compete in the esteemed inter-industry final to be staged this autumn. The perpetual trophy will be presented to the overall winner by Clipper Ventures’ chairman, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. A free entry to the subsequent year’s sector regatta is also awarded to the overall champion.
