Irish fleet head for Kinsale
Regatta Director Pat Pyne expressed his delight at the level of interest in the event. "There has been a steady flow of entries since December. The entry number is for official entries only, and as the majority of local boats have yet to officially confirm their participation, this figure is expected to increase significantly over the coming weeks."
Favourites from the entries to date are former Sovereign's Cup champion Anthony O'Leary in his X-99 Antix and Colm Barrington in his Corby 38 Gloves Off.
The four day, eight race biennial regatta has steadily gained popularity since its inception in 1995. The key focus has been the participating sailor, and organisers have gone to great lengths to provide a strong race management team and a varied après sail entertainment programme.
This year's Sovereign's Cup incorporates the first Class 2 National Championship. As this is one of the most competitive fleets in Ireland, a hard fought battle to win the honour of the first national champion title is guaranteed.
