International yacht club race to be held in New York harbour

Thursday March 4th 2010, Author: James Boyd, Location: United States

American yachting legend and former America’s Cup skipper Dennis Conner has announced details of this year’s Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge to be held in the prime location of New York Harbour, between Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

With a format that sounds not dissimilar to the New York Yacht Club’s Invitational Cup, as the name of the event suggests, the Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge is open to amateur sailors from international yacht clubs, which can request a maximum of two entries. Clubs wishing to take part will then be issued invitations based on their location and the promptness of their appplication. The event will be raced in J/24s out of Manhattan Sailing Club, located at 'Dennis Conner’s North Cove' in Lower Manhattan.

Racing will take place on 20-22 August this year, although the social schedule begins on 18 August and there is practice racing on the 19th.
