40.7s to head for the Channel Islands
The EUROSAF Beneteau 40.7 European Championship this year is to combine with the Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge - taking place from 26 September to 3 October 2010 around the Channel Islands area. The European Championship will be incorporated into the three legs of the Le Tournoi Sailing Race, with the Guernsey to Gulf of St Malo, Gulf of St Malo to Jersey, and inshore racing off the south coast of Jersey races counting towards the overall European Championship.
This news means that sailors from the Channel Islands taking part in the Le Tournoi race will be able to sail among some of the UK’s most experienced amateur sailors.
Integration of the EUROSAF Beneteau 40.7 European Championships with the Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge has been greeted with much excitement by both the Le Tournoi charity and the local sailing community, with many teams, owners and sponsors already pledging their support and involvement in the biennial regatta.
Le Tournoi Charity Chairman, Andy le Seelleur, says: “Le Tournoi’s aim is to continually evolve new, challenging and fun events which are accessible to all. This year’s Sailing Challenge is no exception. Our partnership with the organising companies is guaranteeing the very best yachts, race organisation and management, ensuring the Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge is taken to a new level for all participants in 2010. Channel Island sailors should be excited at the rare opportunity on offer to be able to compete alongside the EUROSAF European Championships which will be part-staged in their local waters.”
The staging of the European Championships as part of the Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge positions the Championship in a geographical location that makes the event accessible to teams from the Channel Islands, the UK and France and will comprise three days of racing, combined with a relaxed and active social programme.
Simon Boulding, Marketing Director of Britannia Corporate Events says: “We were looking for an event to incorporate into the Europeans and wanted to offer entrants something that was novel, challenging and well-organised. Having met with the Le Tournoi team last year and learned more about their past two events, we were delighted to agree a partnership that will greatly benefit both events”.
There are still a few places available for the Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge, for both individuals and corporates wishing to sponsor and crew a branded yacht. More details and an updated brochure can be found at www.letournoi.org or by calling Chairman Andy Le Seelleur on 07797 758338.
