J-Cup in June
The J-Cup 2010 will be hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble from Thursday 3 June to Saturday 5 June. Registration for the event will take place on Wednesday 2 June. The J-Cup is the premier annual regatta for owners of J Boats of every model and all are welcome.
Racing will take place across five classes, on two separate Solent race areas and in 2010 the regatta will once again incorporate the J/109 UK National Championship. An entry of more than 60 J Boats is expected so there will be close to 450 sailors on the water for this early June weekend. Preparations are well underway!
Principal Sponsors B&G, Dubarry of Ireland and North Sails are continuing their support of the J-Cup in 2010. Each of these companies, market leaders in their field, have a long term involvement with the J-Cup and their investment in this regatta is one of the key reasons for the success of the event. Their generosity is recognised and enjoyed by all of the owners and crew taking part. For the 2010 J-Cup, a new Principle Sponsor, Universal Marina (the River Hamble’s most modern marina facility) joins this well established trio.
Universal Marina will be hosting the J-Cup Opening Party on the Thursday evening; there will be a band and also some extremely lively (and top secret) cocktails too. In addition to this Universal Marina has offered a prize of a free berth to the winner of their J-Cup competition and there will also be a Universal Marina team competing for the J/109 UK National Championship.
There’s plenty to play for at the J-Cup; North Sails present daily prizes for all five classes; B&G host their legendary Drinks Reception on the Friday night and Dubarry of Ireland present two spectacular trophies and some fabulous footwear for winning teams. It’s rare for anyone to go home empty handed because alongside these four Principal Sponsors there are a host of other Prize Sponsors, all of whom offer something just a little bit special for the competing crews; it’s rare for anyone to go home empty handed.
The J-Cup Trophy (a relatively modest piece of silverware by the standards of some of the other trophies and prizes) remains the pinnacle of achievement for all of the competitors at the regatta; no team has ever won the trophy twice but all skippers and crew, without exception, aspire to see their boat name engraved upon it. It is presented at the final Gala Dinner and Prizegiving on Saturday night at the close of the regatta.
The racing at the J-Cup is second to none and the competition is hotly fought across all five classes. The driving ethos of the J-Cup is the spirit of competition on the water, the thrill of sailing these fabulous performance boats and the friends and fun we find along the way.
