A new series for the Etchells class has been set up in New England, backed by Zhik clothing.

The series was the brainchild of a large group of New England-based Etchells sailors who wanted to replicate the successes of the Jaguar Cup Winter Series. Four class sanctioned events have been scheduled between June and October with a concentration of activity in Newport RI after the initial event, the Zhik Long Island Sound Championship in Westport, CT June19-20.

Subsequent events are The Zhik Atlantic Coast Championship in conjunction with the Coastal Living Newport Regatta, July 9-10-11, the Zhik Rhode Island Cup, run by Sail Newport, September 11-12 and the culmination of the series, the Zhik US Nationals, which will be hosted and run by the New York Yacht Club October 1-3.

World class high performance sailing gear brand Zhik has agreed to sponsor the series as part of a strategic relationship with the Etchells class for 2010. The partnership represents an opportunity for Zhik to associate its brand excellence and innovative, technology driven approach to delivering high performing clothing solutions to sailors with one of the premier one-design keelboat classes in the world.

Series Co-Chairman Kurt Winkelmann commented 'This is going to be a fantastic series for Etchells sailors and our terrific sponsor, Zhik. We're enthusiastic about the opportunity to help Zhik continue to build their brand in North America.

Zhik USA’s Mike Krantz added “As Zhik is now gaining increasing popularity in the yachting market, our association with the Etchells Atlantic Championships is a natural fit as Etchells sailors really appreciate the technical advantages of Zhik gear and many already wear our products. The Etchells Atlantic Championships will provide a great marketing platform for us to help increase the brand awareness of Zhik being not only the champion brand for Olympians and Skiff sailors, but for one-design and keelboat sailors too”.
