The Extreme Sailing Series has a new team competing on the 2011 global circuit, taking the tally up to 11. Extreme! will be skippered by Tornado Olympic bronze medallist and reigning World Champion Roland Gaebler.

Following his participation twice at the Extreme Sailing Series in Kiel, Gaebler is fielding the first German Extreme Sailing Series entry, Extreme! “Together with our team we are proud to be part of this Series and we cannot wait to see the other legendary teams show up. We are very proud to sail with such great sailors,” commented Gaebler, wh announced the entry at Dusseldorf Boat Show, alongside Extreme Sailing Series ‘Official Clothing Supplier’ Marinepool.

One of the world’s most accomplished small catamaran sailors and International Tornado Class President, Roland Gaebler is not new to the challenges of Extreme 40 racing. In addition to his participation in Kiel, he also led the Hungarian team, Team Nokia Hungary at last year's World Championship.

Gaebler will be joined on board by Canadian Bruno Dubois and Belgium's Sebbe Godefroid with a fourth set to come from each of the host nations, providing an opportunity for that country to showcase their best national or local sailing talent. Between the existing trio though there is huge experience with nine Olympic Games, two Olympic medals, seve World Championship titles, three America’s Cups and two world sailing records between them.

Gaebler’s team have not yet sailed an Extreme 40 together despite all having been involved in the circuit since its inception in 2007: “We’re starting from the beginning with this project so we don’t have expectations on the results initially,” said Gaebler. “We will give it our best and see what happens, and we will have a lot of fun with this great boat. We love to sail and ‘fly’! We will sail with great passion and the results will, hopefully, reflect this. We are planning an intensive training session in Oman to build up and synchronize our team. With Bruno Dubois and Sebbe Godefroid I have great sailors at my side and some great events with amazing boats are waiting for us.”
