Women's Open Keelboat Championship
The Women's Open Keelboat Championship, a weekend of racing for 100% women's crew, will be taking place this year over 23-24 July, once again out of the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble.
Racing is typically for yachts with an IRC handicap with a guide rating of between 0.900 and 1.090, but the organisers are hoping to get a one design fleet for J/80s.
The organisers have confirmed that Dubarry of Ireland are again to support for the Women's Open Keelboat Championship. Dubarry has been a Race Sponsor since the event began in 2008, but this year have strengthened their relationship with the event this year by becoming the Title Sponsor.
Michael Walsh, Marketing Director of Dubarry said: “Here at Dubarry we are actively pursuing a strategy of developing both our yachting and country lifestyle categories and being associated with the UK’s only women’s regatta fits perfectly with our strategy. We have now become a fixture at many high profile events throughout Britain and indeed now worldwide from Burghley & Badminton Horse Trials to The Chelsea Flower Show and of course The London Boat Show. What visitors to all these events have in common is a need to protect themselves from the elements. The fact is that our products “do exactly what they say on the tin” and match peoples performance expectations. The WOKC also fits very well with the Dubarry “work hard play hard” approach. On behalf of Dubarry I wish everyone an enjoyable regatta and Safe Sailing.”
As Title Sponsor, Dubarry of Ireland will present first, second and third placed teams in each class with generous prizes as well as presenting the overall Championship prizes including the WOKC Trophy.
“We are delighted to be working with Dubarry of Ireland as our Title Sponsor and to have such a great brand continuing their support of the UK’s only open women’s keelboat event. We are really looking forward to building on the relationship developed over previous years with Dubarry, including a few new additions for this years event” commented Emma Beagley, a founding member of the Women’s Open Keelboat Championship.
“Now entry is open, we’d encourage those of you who would like to take part in this year’s event to sign up. The Women’s Open Keelboat Championship is both a competitive regatta, and a supportive environment for racers of all abilities, so if you are interested in taking part, please get in touch.”
The Women's Open Keelboat Championship will be hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club, Hamble on the weekend of 23-24 July. Racing will take place in IRC and J/80 classes on a range of courses. All female crews are welcome and the popular frocks and flip-flops party will be taking place on the evening of Saturday 23rd July in aid of Breast Cancer Care.
