A steady westerly filled in to kick-off the first day of the second weekend of the 31st Primo Cup - Trophée Credit Suisse. 94 boats took to the water divided into five classes -Longtze Premier, Platu 25, IRC, J/70 and Melges 20. Two races for all classes were sailed in 12+ knots of wind.

The battle was truly on, particularly among the Melges 20s and J/70s, with general recalls in the first race and individual recalls in the second - an excess of zeal among the top sailors in both these classes, such as Marc Pajot (Le Havre Nautique) in the J/70 and Lucas Russel (Shimmer) in the Melges 20.

At the end of day 1, American Lucas Russel (Shimmer) in the Melges 20, sailing with Harry Melges and Federico Michetti, tops the provisional results ahead of Corrado Augusta (Customly), lying second after two second places, and in third Guido Miani (Monaco Racing Fleet).

In the J/70s, Jacopo Carrain on Carpe Diem started last in the second race but he and his team managed to overtake the whole 31-strong fleet finished first. However it’s the sailor from Le Havre, Ludovic Sénégal (Lulu la Nantaise), who leads overall, keen to retain his title from last year.

In the faster IRC and Longtze Premier classes, the course was longer at six miles, covered in less than two hours for the leaders. Jean-Jacques Chaubard (Team vision future) dominated IRC this afternoon, with the German Jarno Wieland (Shensu), second last year, topping the Longtze leaderboard.

Participants are braced for tougher conditions tomorrow, with 20 to 25 knots forecast and racing scheduled to start at 11.00.
