Final gate ahead  
Vendee Globe leaders set to turn the corner and head for Cape Horn later today
This morning finds the Vendee Globe leaders up at the latitude of the Pacific Ocean East gate, the final gate they will have to cross in the Southern Ocean before diving south down to 56°S in order to round Cape Horn. At the latest sched race leader MIchel Desjoyeaux on Foncia was 127 miles from the western end of the gate having extended his lead from 73 miles to 109 on second placed Roland Jourdain on Veolia Environnement over the last 24 hours. Jourdain crossed a small ridge early yesterday evening and was slowed but was back up to speed, making 22knots at one point last night in pursuit of Desjoyeaux.  ...more
