Tying up the Virgin Islands regattas
The International Rolex Regatta in St Thomas wil this year be the first half of the inaugural Virgin Island Race Week
Everybody loves a winner, and at the International Rolex Regatta in St. Thomas, USVI, every class winner takes home a Rolex timepiece. This year at the March 28-30 event there will be IRC racing along with the traditional classes for CSA handicap, one-design and beach cats. An early deadline of March 6 is looming for the advantage of a discounted entry fee.
"For sailors going south for the winter, Caribbean racing has never been so full of potential or fun," said Event Co-Director John Sweeney, noting that the International Rolex Regatta is the first half of the inaugural Virgin Islands Race Week, presented by the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. Race Week offers 10 days of competition and family activities when it bridges with the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival (March 31- April 6), hosted out of Tortola & Virgin Gorda. There is no additional fee for entering Race Week, and prizes will be awarded to the top IRC and CSA yachts competing. As well, the International Rolex Regatta joins the Presidente Cup and BVI Spring Regatta as the southern circuit of the hotly contested 2008 US-IRC Gulf Stream Series.
