Subject to ratification, Gary Keegan broke the monohull round Ireland record - previously set during the Round Ireland Race - in a time of 75 hrs 27 min 33 sec. HIs yacht, a Whitbread 80' Maxi with a crew of 27 is sponsored by the Irish Independent newspaper.

Jan Hamester GER has set off on a monohull of the Route of Discovery record course from Cadiz to San Salvador. Hamester is sailing a 40ft monohull with two crew. We have researched the race records and can find no monohull time recorded for this route, so, if successful, this will be setting a benchmark.

Alessandro di Benedetto arrived safely in Guadeloupe aboard his 20ft open sport catarmaran, sailed singlehanded. Starting from the Canaries he crossed the Atlantic in 28 days 11 hours 36 minutes and 2 seconds.

Macquarie Innovation have wound up their outright speed project for this year. Simon McKeon reports that on the last of the extended days - 7 December - they briefly enjoyed "almost ideal" conditions, but it did not last long enough to be effective. On one run, although "the foils were not at the optimum setting", they "exceeded 47 knots", but not for 500 metres, and then the wind changed.
