Ellen's book forthcoming

'Taking on the World' available from 2 October

Tuesday September 17th 2002, Author: Mark Turner, Location: United Kingdom
Available on 2 October, Ellen MacArthur's autobiography 'Taking on the World' tells her story but is dedicated to everyone who has supported her over the years...

"I have wanted to write a book since I was small, but the reality of actually sitting in a room and hammering it out was a far bigger challenge than I'd expected. I found reliving each day of my life eye opening, seeing how many people had helped so much in so many diverse ways. For the first time in 7 years I had time to take stock of my life so far and was amazed at what I discovered. This is far from a book about sailing, but a book about people," she says.

"This is her story - how, from her childhood in landlocked Derbyshire, she made it to the start line of the Vendée Globe. It's also the incredible story of the race that catapulted her on to the front pages and into the nation's heart. Dramatic and moving, Taking On The World will inspire and enthrall all who read it," say publishers Penguin UK

To promote the book Ellen is going on a tour of the UK from 23 September until 2 October. There are opportunities for book signings or to hear her story about writing her autobiography at one of the 'Ellen In Conversation' events.
