Foncia back in action

Alain Gautier's new trimaran repairs after her dismasting in July

Monday October 7th 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: France
This weekend, following her dismasting at the end of the July, Alain Gautier's Foncia has again taken to the high seas off her home port of Lorient on France's Brittany coast.
"I'm very glad to see the boat floating with a mast again," commented the former Vendee Globe winner." The team pulled out all the stops so that Foncia is as ready as possible by today. The number of the modifications we have carried out - in particular to the daggerboard in the central hull, the installation of the pilots and a whole heap of small changes to help evolve the boat. All up, the weight saving on the platform is approximately 120kg, partly due to the new mast, which is lighter but less aerodynamics than the one which broke this summer. The objective now is to leave to make my qualification as soon as possible, tomorrow or Wednesday."
