Geronimo limps home
Conditions were lively as the Cap Gemini Ernst &Young and Schneider Electric-sponsored trimaran surfed into the Rade de Brest and her homeport at 25 knots under jib alone in the 50 knot westerly winds. west
With so much wind, it was impossible for her to come alongside at the Arsenal, so the Naval College offered the trimaran a mooring on the south side of Brest harbour. Manoeuvring the big tri on to a buoy under jib alone required skill, but as she made the approach support crew on two of the Arsenal's inflatables caught the mooring lines.
As soon as the weather permits, Geronimo will return to the Brest Arsenal to have her rudder removed for detailed analysis in the boatyard.
Meanwhile her designers Marc van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prevost are working on diffeent solutions to solve Geronimo's severe rudder cavitation problems.
