42 year old Frenchman Jacques Caraës, one of the most sought after crewmen on the offshore racing circuit, has announced his intention to take part in the next Vendee Globe in 2004/5.

Caraes was a regular crewman on Grant Dalton's Club Med for The Race and sailed around the world with Eric Tabarly on the maxi ketch La Poste. He is also a regular face on Bob Miller's giant maxi Mari Cha III. He has crewed on most of the 60ft trimarans over the year, but recently has project managed Jean le Cam's Bonduelle campaign.

Caraes is currently looking for a sponsor and a boat for the Vendee and in the meantime this year plans to campaign one of the new Figaros and race an Open 60 in the two handed Transat Jacques Vabre.
