Video: Oooo - look at that!

Who said ocean racing was lonely?
On Monday evening, while you were having your dinner two yachts were in the English Channel - both on course to break records. The video is taken from onboard the Open 60 Artemis Ocean Racing by crewman Mark Thomas. They are heading down the Channel on their run in to the finish of the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland race, just level with Beachy Head when... ...from astern comes the red 60ft trimaran Sodebo, with a yellow clad Thomas Coville waving! Who said offshore racing is lonely! Coville later that night crossed a line at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight to complete a 1,787 mile lap of the British island in a time of 6 days 6 hours 40 minutes and 31 seconds or at an average speed of 11.86 knots. A new singlehanded record. This is some 22 hours faster than Artemis Ocean Racing completed the passage in - which is to be expected Coville being on three hulls not one, except that he was sailing singlehanded! You can clearly see some damage to the starboard float as Sodebo comes past and with the record well in the bag Coville is super cautious with two reefs in the mainsail - but in 10 knots of breeze still smoking along. Our thanks to Mark Thomas for this. Visit the team's website here: Click here for video (.WMV file 4.97MB)
