Another woman for the Vendee
French yachtswoman announces new challenge
After competing in the Mini Transat twice and 10 years spent working around the French race boat scene, 32 year old French sailor Karen Leibovici has announced that she will be entering next year's Vendee Globe. After Ellen MacArthur, Isabelle Autissier and Catherine Chabaud, Leibovici will be fourth women to have take part in the solo non-stop around the world race (although Miranda Merron who is also entered in the race can also lay claim to this).
With the support of documentary makers Millimages and Gédéon Programme, Leibovici will be sailing Jean-Luc van den Heede's red yawl formerly
, a boat already with a long history in singlehanded round the world yacht racing.
The boat is currently being refitted in Caen in north France, prior to Leibovici racing her in the Transat Jacques Vabre and next year's OSTAR.
