Challenge Business have announced that EDS, their backer for the EDS Atlantic Challenge in 2001 and of this year's fully crewed IMOCA-recognised Round Britain and Ireland race has withdrawn its sponsorship.

An EDS spokesperson stated that the Company would not be supporting the Round Britain and Ireland Race in 2003 but underlined its belief in sailing as a sport which fits closely with its core values and the drive of its employees and customers.

“We have established an excellent relationship with Challenge Business and the Open 60 Circuit,” an EDS spokesperson said. “But recent developments in IT markets and resulting changes in our business strategies have dictated that we need to focus on other critical areas of our business during 2003.”

Simon Walker, Managing Director, Challenge Business comments: “We are naturally incredibly disappointed with the news but fully understand EDS’ position. Sponsors’ objectives do change and we’re extremely lucky to have had such a tremendous working association with the company.”

Challenge Business will now be discussing options with the competitors and looking for an alternative proposition.
