Following the early retirements in the two handed Tranz Tasman race from Sydney to Auckland, the latest casualty is the Mini Up the Blue sailed by Kiwi former Mini Transat entrant Chris Sayer and Chris Gravit.

Up the Blue dismasted in 30 knots winds at 20:20 last night having sailed one quarter of the distance to Auckland. The crew are both said to be okay and are expected to sail back to Sydney under jury rig.

At present the Sayer 13-metre Sayernara is continuing to lead the fleet and is 15 miles ahead of Vince Lamond and Ian Schmidt on Spirit of Downunder.
