Geronimo reaches her long awaited destination

Thursday March 20th 2003, Author: James Boyd, Location: Transoceanic
This morning at 4 hours 58 minutes and 11 seconds GMT, Geronimo, Olivier de Kersauson's Cap Gemini and Schneider Electric sponsored trimaran crossed the Jules Verne Trophy finish off Ouessant after 68 days 1 hours 58 minutes 02 seconds at sea.

They failed to break the record for the non-stop circumnavigation established last year by Bruno Peyron and his crew on board the maxi-catamaran Orange.

"We have completed our work. We are in a hurry to return home, however there is a kind of nostalgia to leave this enthralling business behind us," commented de Kersauson on crossing the line. "A circumnavigation concentrates yourmind completely. Nevertheless, we are glad to set again our partners, our friends, our close relations, people that one loves and also to finish this Trophy Jules Verne which has turned against us since the Azores. It was a strange Trophy Jules Verne, I would not wish anybody to find the conditions that we saw."
