Victory for Sill
"The Mediterranean really did everything to us," commented Jourdain. "But it all finally came good thanks to the tramontana and the mistral. It was guaranteed adrenalin for everyone. We were regularly under water."
After a slow start, Sill had pulled into her characteristic first place on the way north from the Canaries. After running out of the wind passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, she was briefly overhauled by Bernard Stamm's Bobst Group-Armor Lux. After crawling their way upwind in the western Med they were able to hook into strong reaching conditions off the Spanish coast which saw them massively extend their lead.
Finally Bilou, as Jourdain is known, paid tribute to his colleagues onboard. "It is a true victory of team. The crew was formidable, but also the technical team which prepares the boat".
