First training facility offering RYA courses approved in the States

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) recently completed the final inspection of Maritime Professional Training's (MPT) facilities, vessels and equipment based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The centre is now fully recognised to deliver the full range of RYA training courses.

The RYA's recognition of centres world-wide is in response to the growing international demand for RYA qualifications. An important feature of the RYA's qualifications is that they can be used under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Codes of Practice for manning of small commercial vessels and for entry into Megayacht qualifications. The centre also meets US Coastguard requirements.

Speaking on his return from officially awarding MPT with its recognition RYA Training Manager James Stevens commented, "This an exciting new development for the RYA. We take great care to ensure that any centre offering qualifications carrying the RYA's name meet our high standards. In MPT's case we flew a team of senior RYA examiners from the UK to Florida to qualify their staff and check out their operational procedures thoroughly."

MPT Centre Principal, Beverly Morley, commented, " Becoming the first US training centre to gain Royal Yachting Association recognition is one of the proudest moments in our school's 19 year history. We are so happy to have the privilege and opportunity to offer the RYA Programs! We know that many American students are looking forward to participating in the world renowned RYA Yachtmaster Certificates of Competency and Crew Training Courses".

The new Fort Lauderdale Centre is part of a growing network of centres around the world that includes several in the Mediterranean and South Africa offering RYA qualifications.
