For longest leg of the Alpe Adria Sailing Tour as boats arrive in Sibenik

After almost 27 hours at sea, Darko Hajdinjak on board Scor Team was the first to cross the finish line in the Alpe Adria Sailing Tour, on the 130 mile long Pola-Sibenik leg. The leg - the longest in the race - started yesterday morning at 11am from Pola and ended today at 13:46 in the south of Croatia, when the first of the twelve identical Solaris 36 one designs entered the port of Sibenik.

Behind Scor Team, by a margin of 45 secs was Nevio Sabadin's Barcolana. finishing just seconds ahead of Peter Holmberg's BMW Tomic.

It was a great result for the Friuli Venezia Giulia team, managed by the University students of the Cus (Center of University Students), who had a wonderful race staying ahead of the fleet in second position only to finish in fourth place arrving an hour after Scor Team. "Unlike the other teams," commented Marco Sartori, leader of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia boat "we all alternated at the helm, giving us time to rest during this very long leg, and we came in with a good finish."

Unanimously it was considered a difficult leg due to constant wind shifts and increasing and decreasing wind. Hundreds of lovers of the sport cheered the teams and welcomed them to the docks on their arrival.

America's Cup skipper Peter Holmberg, visibly tired, confessed "it's been ten years since I've done such a long race, and even though it was really fun, it was also
very strange having constantly to do restarts due to the decrease in wind and the wind
shifts. The weather was very uncertain and unstable and it caused constant changes in the placings during the race."

After six of the ten legs of the Alpe Adria Sailing Tour (the end is due on 22 May in Dubrovnik), City of Split remains the leader in the overall results, followed by Peter Holmberg on BMW Tomic and Barcolana in third place. City of Aquileia with Marco Augelli at the wheel, with a sixth place for today, drops down to fifth place followed
by Scor Team, while the students on Friuli Venezia Giulia get closer to the women's team Val Nautika still lying in ninth place.

Tomorrow is a day of rest and the boats will restart their tour on Wednesday with a race in front of Sibenik.
