Irish Independent, a Frers designed Whitbread maxi sailing with a crew of 27 has establish a new monohull record for sailing round Ireland.

Skippered by Gary Keegan, the boat passed the Kish light off Dun Laoghaire at 2204 GMT on 27 November and made the 708 mile loop of the island in a time of 75 hours, 27 minutes and 33 seconds. The World Speed Sailing Record Council's John Reid commented that this time was some 56 minutes faster than that of the benchmark time established by Colm Barrington's Jeep Cherokee in the 1998 Round Ireland Race.

Finished on Sun broke it by 56 minutes. 1st monohull attempt round ireland that we've had. Had to establish a bench mark.
