Solo Racing Festival this Saturday

Must-attend event for the shorthanded offshore racing community

Shorthanded offshore racing's gathering of the clans is to take place this Saturday, 6 March. Organised by the Solo Offshore Racing Club (formerly Petit Bateau), the annual Solo Racing Festival will take place at the Solent University Conference Centre in Southampton and is this year being sponsored by bluQube.

The program this year is as follows:

10. 00 doors open for registration.
11.00 Advanced Weather Routing, Mike Broughton of WinningWind.com
12.00 Mini Transat, Britain’s top Mini skippers, Oliver Bond and Keith Willis
12.30 OSTAR, winner and new 40 foot record holder Jan Kees Lampe
13.00 to 14.00 lunch.
14.00 ‘Out There’. The world premiere of the first Ostar movie since 1980.
14.30 Jester Challenge 2010 celebrates 50 years since the first Ostar, John Apps.
14.50 Global Ocean Race with solo winner Michel Kleinjans, and sign up for 2011.
15.20 La Route du Rhum, 2006 class 40 winner Phil Sharp and 2009 ‘Chocolates’ winning 
         designer Simon Rogers look ahead to October’s classic race.
16.10 Tea break
16.30 Open 60 Master Class, all you’ll ever need to know about racing an open 60 with
         Vendee skipper Brian Thompson.
17.30 break
17.50 Figaro la Solitaire, probably the best solo race in the world, with Nigel King.
18.20 Velux 5 Oceans, take an Eco 60 footer and sign up with Tim Kelly.
18.45 Close.

As usual this event promises to be the biggest ever gathering of solo and shorthanded sailors in the UK and is not to be missed by anyone with a passion for this genre of our sport.
