The start of the Mini Pavois' second leg back from Gijon to La Rochelle is to be postponed by 23 hours. The fleet will set sail now on Monday 10 May at 1100. This delay is due to the stormy depression that is forecast to slowly move acrossthe Bay of Biscay. This is set to cause heavy showers and 45 knot winds over Sunday night until Monday night. For obvious safety reasons, the race committee have decided to postpone. With the new schedule, the first boat should now reach La Rochelle on Friday.

The second leg of the Mini Pavois will be 465 nm long and will return to La Rochelle via a number of marks of the Brittany coast - they must leave to port (46°05.6N - 01°42.4W), and also Ile d'Yeu, then the Sablaire South Cardinal buoy to starboard (46°43,7 - 02°19,4W), Belle Ile to port, they must round the Birvideaux lighthouse to starboard (47°29.2N - 03°17.4W), before once again leaving Belle Ile to starboard, the Chanchardon lighthouse to port, and then on to the finish line off La Rochelle.

Meteo Consult weather report: Sunday the 9th of May

The low pressure moves quickly this morning to head towards the middle of the Bay of Biscay. It goes slightly north in the afternoon, and generates very disturbed conditions. For the start, the conditions will feature a low pressure with WSW wind of force 3-4 veering west. Showers will limit visibility. With the rise of the low pressure in the afternoon, the west wind will strengthens and continue to veer into the northwest force 4-5 with a risk of reaching force 5-6 and a large sea. In the evening and night it will continue to strengthen in the WNW to force 6 with potential 35 knots gale force gusts. This kind of changing situations limits its reliability due to uncertainty about the precise development of the low pressure. Nevertheless, there are risks of conditions that will get worse.

Forecast for the beginning of next week
Low pressure on Monday in the north of the Bay of Biscay will reach France on Tuesday. The low pressure and very unstable conditions on Monday will change into a northerly stream on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, the pressure should increase and improve the weather forecast.
