Jean Le Cam reported to the Race Committee of the Barcelona World Race at 1925hrs (GMT) this evening that his IMOCA Open 60 Prèsident has dismasted. Le Cam and his Spanish co-skipper Bruno Garcia are on board and both safe and healthy.
The incident occurred when the boat was positioned at around 18º03N/26º14'W and was sailing at speeds of 16-20 knots. The boat is believed to have hit a wave and the mast broke.
Michel Olivier, the team’s technical manager and the Race Committee are in permanent contact with the boat and have confirmed that no assistance is required.
Prèsident is currently under motor 83 miles away from San Antao, the northernmost island of the Cape Verde group.
The wind conditions currently are northeasterly blowing at around 19 knots with a short sea.
