Charente Maritime Bahia Transat 6.50 sets sail
After the start gun fired, the 79 skippers deliberately held back from crossing the start line in order to pay tribute to fellow skipper Jean-Marc Allaire who should have been on the starting line with them today, but who was lost overboard almost two weeks ago on a routine delivery trip.
The start was held in a 6 knot westerly and the first to the reach the turning mark were the Protos: Sebastien Rogues on #716 Eole Generation GDF SUEZ, followed surprisingly by the oldest boat in the fleet Sébastien Picault's Kickers (#198, once upon a time Seb Magnen's double Mini Transat winner Karen Liquid) and Antoine Rioux on Festival des Pains #800. They were followed by Aymeric Chappellier on La tortue de l'Aquarium - La Rochelle (#788), Thomas Normand on Financière de l'Échiquier (#787) ans Etienne David on Teamwork (#679). The first three series boats were Renaud Chavarria on Béziers Méditerrannée (#596), Giacomo Sabbatini on Scusami la Spalle (#554) and Gwenolé Gahinet on Asso Watever - gwenolegahinet.com (#455).
