Last night at 23:00, while 130 miles north of the Azores, the crew of Cheminées Poujoulat contacted the Race Director Jean Maurel to report a significant leak on their boat.

This morning at 10:15, with the situation becoming critical and having communicated with the Race Director, Bernard Stamm and Jean Francois Cuzon have set of their distress beacon. The signal was received by the Cross Gris Nez which relayed the information to MRCC Punta Delgada in the Azores. A helicopter took off at 09:50 UTC to recover the crew from their boat which is positioned 230 miles north of Punta Delgada on the island of San Miguel in the Azores.
