This year will see Classe Mini introducing the Championnat de France de Voile 'Classiques' Tour Mini 6.50 (quite a mouthful...), effectively an annual championship for the class, where the results from three singlehanded races will count.

For 2012 the three events will be the Pornichet Select 6.50 in April, the Trophée Marie-Agnès Peron (MAP) in late May and Les Sables - Azores - Les Sables to be held in late July. A Champion, with the top cumulative results in these three events, will be crowned in both the Minis' Proto and Series classes.

For Classe Mini, race organisers this new championship offers better visibility along with added promotion of their event for their partners - a major asset in the sustainability of the Mini circuit. For skippers who participate in a championship this league table will be a better way to to showcase their performance.

Henry Bacchini, Vice President of the French Sailing Federation (FFV) said: "Within offshore racing, Classe Mini 6.50 has emerged as a core element in solo racing. The Classiques Championship series on which regularly over 70 competitors will compete, has a broad international representation, it is a great showcase of talent and champions. Since the first transatlantic Mini race from France in 1985, the FFV has always paid special attention to the Mini 6.50.

"We are delighted to recognise the value of this class and especially the 'Mini Spirit' which has continued unabated over the years. I hope this first edition will be a great success and I wish to Minis: breeze and beautiful seas. '

Olivier Avram, President of the Classe Mini commented: "The creation of this championship is an important step for the Classe Mini, which proves, if it needs to, the maturity of the Mini circuit. Classe Mini is a key player in ocean racing, both in its creativity and the quality of the sailors who compete in it. "
